When a young and innovative Antwerp start-up was looking for lighting solutions to suit their office space, and that would also function as acoustic dimmers, they turned to ORBIT and BAZIR. The 3D acoustic lighting company took charge of an innovative design that incorporates ORBIT’s lighting fixture expertise.
In spaces where people work, live and meet, spatial acoustics are at play. From restaurants to workspaces, each location has its own parameters, like cubic content and furnishings, which influence noise levels. Within these places, noise can only be reduced or eliminated by developing innovative acoustic materials. To that end, ORBIT and BAZIR set out to create lighting objects with Basotect® G+, an open-cell foam made of melamine resin.
Combining acoustic engineering and stunning light design, the structures that came from this ORBIT collaboration are the suspended and wall-mounted lighting fixtures named Aco Snap, Macaron (Wall), Globe, Slanted and Donut. These striking sculptural lighting objects make for an elegant and atmospheric environment that improves acoustic comfort.
How do they achieve this? Basotect® G+ does not reflect sound waves, but absorbs them, all the while reducing sound energy and transforming it into warmth energy. As a sound absorber of the highest class, Basotect® G+ effectively counteracts the effects of acoustically hard surfaces and makes a significant contribution towards the improvement of spatial acoustics.
